Here are some some tips to keep up a good relationship:
Make time for each other
- Share a meal
- Take up a sport together
- go for a walk
- have sex
- don't just sit in front of the TV
Take time to talk about what has happened in each others day. This will help you both to:
- Unwind, and let go of any tension built up through the day.
- Understand other parts of your partner's life.
Sort problems out as and when they occur
- Be clear about what the problem is and why it is upsetting you.
- Try to see things from your partner's point of view as well.
- Don't bring things up from the past to use against your partner.
Accept that your partner will not be able to meet all of your needs
- Some of your needs will have to be met outside of the relationship.
- Make sure you set aside time for friends and family.
- Take up other interests that do not involve your partner.
Don't be critical of your partner
- Encourage your partner to achieve their goals.
- Work towards accepting your differences.
- Do not try to change your partner.
