About Glasgow

Glasgow is Scotland's largest city, covering a huge geographical area. The heart of the city is built on the banks of the River Clyde, on the west coast of Scotland's central belt.

Glasgow is a city rich in history, culture and religion. It has an industrial past, and at present is considered to be the commercial capital of Scotland. More than anything, Glasgow is a city that is about its people. There are approximately 600,000 people that live in the city, of wide ranging and diverse ethnicity, religion, culture and social-economic status.

About Community Health and Care Partnerships

CHCPs have recently been developed in Scotland. They are groups of health services organised locally. They aim to benefit patients by reducing red tape. Responsibility for decision making will be taken by front line organisations that are close to patients. CHCPs have a strong emphasis on partnership, integration and service redesign. Health and social care professionals will be able to look at the whole picture of care from a patient's point of view. This will help develop new models of care to meet patient needs.

About mental health in Glasgow

Statistics would suggest that at any one time one in five of us will be experiencing some type of mental health problem. Therefore Glasgow - like any big city - has more than its fair share of people with these types of difficulties.

Services for mental health in the city are currently undergoing a period of reorganisation and development. The creation of Primary Care Mental Health Teams (PCMHTs) across the city is one new development. PCMHTs are being set up to offer psycho-social services to people with common mental health problems. STEPS are the PCMHT for south-east Glasgow CHP.
